Common Questions

These are some of the most common questions my patients ask. But I am sure you may have quite a unique one! Please don't hesitate to leave a message and I will call you back.

Do I need a referral letter to come and see you?



No. You can book an appointment with me directly, without being referred by your GP. However, if your GP or specialist advises you to see me, a short note would be very much appreciated, since he/she knows your medical history well and can tell me exactly what the request is. You can also ask them to send it to me by one of the secure systems that we use.

Will your appointments be covered by my Dutch insurance?



For Dutch insurances, my consultations are covered under alternative care ('alternatieve zorg'). In order to qualify for reimbursement, you need 1. a supplementary insurance package for this option, 2. the package should include the treatment that you received: homeopathy (code nr 24200), nutritional medicine ('orthomoleculaire geneeskunde', code nr 24000), natural medicine ('natuurgeneeskunde', code nr 24005) and 3. the practioncer is required to be affiliated with a professional association recognised by the insurance company (in my case that is the 'AVIG'). The amount that is reimbursed, can be different for each insurance company, and depends on the plan that you chose. For example, it can be an amount of 40 euro per day, with a maximum of 200 euro per year.

Will your appointments be covered by my international insurance?



It depends on the plan you are on. For MSH and Cigna, search for 'alternative therapies' or 'homeopathy'.

What do I do in case of emergency?



For life-threatening emergencies call 112 . For other acute problems, please call your family doctor on workdays between 8:00 and 17:00. During evenings/nights/weekends/holidays call the local out of office hours service (Huisartsenpost). For the Hague and surrounding areas, this is Hadoks: 070 346 96 69.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?



Are you unable to attend? Please cancel your appointment by e-mail (info(at)thiadenshealth.nl) at least 24 hours in advance. In this way, I may be able to help another patient and I will not have to charge you.

Will you become my family doctor?



No, my work is complementary to your existing treatments. Your family doctor will always be your primary health care provider.

I want to ask you a short question. Can I just call you?



Yes, you can call me on 070-2042402. Please leave a message if I cannot take the phone. You can also send a message to info(at)thiadenshealth.nl.

Will my GP be informed about my visiting you?



There will be no (automatic) notice of your visit to your GP. Medical information can only be shared with your permission, or in case of emergency or impending danger. You can request your GP or your specialist to send medical reports to me, if necessary. We have the possibility to exchange medical information throught secure systems.

How will I pay for your services?



You can pay directly after the consultation by pin. The payment terminal is suitable for VPAY, Maestro, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. You will receive the invoice by e-mail after the consultation. You can also pay by bank transfer.

How will you make sure that your prescriptions will not interfere with my treatment of the patient?



Food supplements and phytotherapeutic remedies contain chemical compounds, which means they can interefere with prescription medicines. During my intake, I make a lists of medicines the patient takes, and I will look for possible interactions when prescribing supplements. In case I prescribe a product that might improve the effect of the drug (e.g. selenium and levothyroxine), I will ask the patient to report it to you, or I will let you know if you referred the patient to me. Homeopathic remedies do not interfere with medicines, because they operate on a sub-molecular level.

Do you sell the supplements and remedies you prescribe?



No, I do not sell them myself. I can either advise you on where to buy them, or write a prescription for you that you can use in an online store, if you want. For homeopathic remedies, I send the prescription directly to a specialised pharmacy, who will then mail the remedy to your house.

Can homeopathy be combined with conventional medicine?



Yes, homeopathic remedies work on a different level than conventional drugs, so they will not interact with each other. In case a homeopathic remedy alleviates your symptoms, your family doctor might decrease the dosage of prescription medicine (e.g. anti-inflammatory drugs or cortisone creme...). Please consult your doctor first, before making any changes in your medication.

Can I come with shoulder pain and back/neck problems?



Yes, homeopathy can be used for very tangible issues, such as musculoskeletal problems.



They are more than welcome! Please note that your respective medical information will be kept confidential from one other.

Is it true that I just have to accept my painful periods?



No, painful periods are not 'normal'! Let's look for solutions to prevent this monthly suffering. Both nutritional changes and homeopathy are worth trying.

Can you help me lose weight?



Yes, let us first consider what has caused your weight gain and then see what would be the best approach at this moment. I would like you to get lasting results by acquiring healthy habits, instead of encouraging crash diets.

Does it make sense at all to take supplements if I eat healthily?



Yes, some supplements are good to take, even if you eat healthily. For example, in Nordic countries, it is often advisable to take extra vitamine D during the winter. Also, sometimes your need of a certain nutrient is higher than the amount you can get through the food you eat. For example, you might need some extra magnesium in times of stress.

Is it a good idea to become vegan?



The environmental and ethical benefits of veganism are beyond doubt. The health effects are an object of discussion. In any case, if you decide to become vegan, make sure to take good care not only of the planet, but of your own body as well. Start off well-informed by doing research or asking for advice.

I never got well after the flu. Can you help me?



Sometimes, after having recovered from the acute phase, vague symptoms remain, such as fatigue, feeling down, weakness, difficulty concentrating, or muscle pains. We can look at where the process stagnated and find solutions to get you back in shape.

Do you treat patients with cancer?



No. There are doctors who specialize in the counselling of people with cancer. (http://www.ngoo.nl/)

I tend to crave sweet things at times, or feel that I will faint if I don't eat every hour. Can you help me with that?



This is a common symptom that indicates a problem with the blood sugar levels. It is reversible and can be addressed with some adjustements in your eating habits. Note: if you are on medications for diabetes, consult your family doctor first.

Do you prescribe (bio-identical) hormones?



No, for regular hormonal treatments (contraception, HRT) please contact your family doctor of gynecologist. I do not prescribe bio-identical hormone therapies either. I only work with natural remedies.
